Use the steps below to calculate the retail cost of a deck including install, based on surface material and area.
1. Choose your surface material.
A variety of surface materials are available when it comes to finishing your deck. Choose from composite, cedar, treated pine, and even custom woods like maple, or exotic woods like ipa, or ironwood. Regardless of the finish, the internal structure and sub-floor of most decks is constructed using treated pine lumber.
Composite
Choose a composite decking system from Owens Corning OC Lumber, Timbertech, or Trex. Each brand has its own unique textures and colors, as well as differences in structural ratings.
Cedar
Oklahoma Red Cedar can still be purchased in rough cut sections, straight off the train at Cedar Supply Co located just north of San Marcos, TX. McCoys Building Supply Centers are located throughout Texas and also trade Oklahoma Red Cedar.
Treated Pine
Pine is the original sustainable decking material. By rotating harvests up to 150 years in the future, pine farmers produce a steady supply of competitively priced decking and framing lumber.
For example the Texas-based Temple-Inland Company, founded in the late 1800s, followed reforestation and sustainable forestry practices that were considered highly effective in industrial tree farming. They were nearly 120 years old when acquired by International Paper in 2012.
